PROOFREADING - HOW DOES IT WORK AND WHAT DOES IT COST?

ABOUT OUR ACADEMIC SUPPORT SERVICES

THESIS PROOFREADING - WHAT IT INCLUDES

As well as making sure your work is clear and makes sense to the reader, I will check it for:

  • Grammar, spelling and punctuation

  • Academic/professional style and tone

  • Accurate/appropriate vocabulary

  • Presentation of numbers, dates, percentages and statistics

  • Use of italics, capitals, hyphens, symbols and abbreviations

  • Lists and quotations

  • Figure and table caption style

  • In-text citations/footnotes and references/bibliography - style adherence

ACADEMIC SUPPORT SERVICES

Alongside proofreading, I also provide support services to academic staff, such as editing, transcribing, research, and report writing.

Currently, I am engaged to work on two issues per year of an online communications journal and, as an accurate and fast touch typist, I regularly transcribe interviews for academic staff and student research projects.

Previous research contracts have included the AUT Media Observatory election study and Unitec’s marae-based education project.

I also publish my own research, most recently as a co-author of chapters on political activism (Oxford University Press) and precarious work (Massey University Press).

PROOFREADING - HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

My standard charge for students is $40-$45 per hour (depending on document size) + GST (currently 15%). The final cost will depend on the amount of work needed, so I will ask you to send a sample of your work before I begin, so that I can tell you how long it will take, and estimate how much it will cost. This will be invoiced on completion of work, with payment due by return.

THE PROOFREADING PROCESS, TRACK CHANGES & DEADLINES

Once your first draft is complete and ready for proof reading, I will ask you to email it to me, attached as a Microsoft Word document. (You may prefer to send individual chapters.) I will return it to you as soon as possible with 'Track Changes' to highlight any proofreading suggestions I have made, and 'Margin Comments' where I am not sure about the intended meaning, or have suggestions that may help clarity and understanding. You will need to decide to accept or reject these changes.

WRITE CHOICE understands that students are often under time pressure, and I will always try my best to return your work to you as quickly as possible so that you can meet your deadlines. It is always helpful if you can book a date with me for submitting your work. A surcharge may be added if work needs to be done at short notice or over a weekend.

I will support you throughout this process and try to be available to answer any questions you may have.
