'Kia ora Jane, I cannot thank you enough for your time and help!!! You are the best editor I have ever worked with! your comments are so helpful (not just to improve the paper but my English too)".
WHAT I DO: THESIS SUPPORT FOR NZ AND INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
After months of hard work, you now have the final draft of your thesis. However, you may not be sure that it reads as clearly as you would like. Writing a university thesis in your own language is tough enough - but more so if you are an international student with a different mother tongue. Your supervisor will know this and – within certain very clear guidelines – may agree that you should look for help. This is where I come in. Having supervised students from master's degree to doctorate level, I know what help you need and can provide support whatever your main subject.
I have proofread academic works from clients in Aotearoa-New Zealand, Australia and the Asia-Pacific region and across a range of fields, including Advertising, Architecture, Business/Management, Dance Studies, Disaster Management, Economics, Education, English, History, Hospitality/Tourism, Māori Studies, Mathematics Education, Media Communication, Medicine, Nursing, Political Studies, Public Relations, Science Education, Sociology, the academic components (exegeses) of Creative Writing and Music works, as well as professional practice
I have now worked on over 300 theses, the majority of which are PhDs. Have a look at my testimonials page to see what some of my other students have said about me. Please note that you will need to book a date with me well in advance of submission, so do contact me as early as possible. See the link below for details of how to contact me, and what I will need from you.
THE PROOFREADING PROCESS, TRACK CHANGES & DEADLINES
Once your first draft is complete and ready for proof reading, I will ask you to email it to me, attached as a Microsoft Word document. (You may prefer to send individual chapters.) I will return it to you as soon as possible with 'Track Changes' to highlight any proofreading suggestions I have made, and 'Margin Comments' where I am not sure about the intended meaning, or have suggestions that may help clarity and understanding. You will need to decide to accept or reject these changes.
WRITE CHOICE understands that students are often under time pressure, and I will always try my best to return your work to you as quickly as possible so that you can meet your deadlines.
I will support you throughout this process and try to be available to answer any questions you may have.

THESIS PROOFREADING - WHAT IT INCLUDES
As well as making sure your work is clear and makes sense to the reader, I will check it for:
Grammar, spelling and punctuation
Academic/professional style and tone
Accurate/appropriate vocabulary
Presentation of numbers, dates, percentages and statistics
Use of italics, capitals, hyphens, symbols and abbreviations
Lists and quotations
Figure and table caption style
In-text citations/footnotes and references/bibliography - style adherence
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
My standard charge for students is $40-$45 per hour (depending on document size) + GST (currently 15%). The final cost will depend on the amount of work needed, so I will ask you to send a sample of your work before I begin, so that I can tell you how long it will take, and estimate how much it will cost. This is payable on an invoice sent upon completion of the work, or, in the case of longer-term and ongoing projects, pro rata, payable upon invoices sent at the end of each month. Upon payment by bank transfer (or credit card), a receipt is provided.
There is a minimum charge of NZ$120 plus GST. A 20% surcharge of how much may be added if work needs to be done at short notice or over a weekend.

OUR ACADEMIC SUPPORT SERVICES
Alongside proofreading, I also provide support services to academic staff, such as editing, transcribing, research, and report writing. Currently, I am engaged to work on two issues per year of an online communications journal and, as an accurate and fast touch typist, I regularly transcribe interviews for academic staff and student research projects.
Previous research contracts have included the AUT Media Observatory election study and Unitec’s marae-based education project. I also publish my own research, most recently as a co-author of chapters on political activism (Oxford University Press) and precarious work (Massey University Press).
